This mission was started by Anita Story Delp, who selflessly dedicated her time and effort towards ensuring that every student in the United States had access to information and other materials about mental wellness.
Although her life mission may have been cut short with her passing, her spirit and passion for making a difference lives on.
In honor of her legacy and tireless work for the mental health of young people, we have come together to continue her cause.
Our collective goal is to ensure that Anita’s vision of a safer, healthier youth becomes a reality.
We are inspired by her selflessness and her commitment to helping others, and we pledge to carry on her critical work.
We know that it will be a challenging journey, but we are determined to see it through and make a real and lasting impact.
Dana Davis is Anita’s sister and the spearhead for carrying on her legacy in promoting mental health awareness for students. Dana has been seeing the need for educating students on self care and coping skills as a teacher since 2007.
After the death of Anita, Dana could not think of a better way to remember her sister than to continue the work she had started with Anita’s teen group. So, with the encouragement of family and friends, Anita’s Lemonade Project was born.
Angie Chance is a resident of Little Rock, AR and works as a Senior Project Manager at Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She also enjoys helping people ease into an active lifestyle with a “Make it Fun” attitude as a certified Jazzercise Instructor.
As a lifelong friend of Anita, Angie jumped on board when Dana asked if she could help in carrying on her project to provide mental wellness kits. Being a part of ‘Anita’s Lemonade Project’ is a privilege and she is honored to be able to provide resources to help young people cope with stress and trauma.
Terrie Woods, a retired dynamo, dedicates her time and energy to her family and church community. With a heart full of love and a spirit of service, she tirelessly works to help others see the love of Christ through her actions.
When her cousin Dana proposed the idea, Terrie was immediately excited and eager to contribute, having always held a special place in her heart for Anita. She took the lead in fundraising efforts and managing the finances, ensuring that every aspect of the project was meticulously handled. Her dedication and passion were instrumental in getting Anita’s Lemonade Project off the ground.
Anita Story Delp, 53 of North East, MD, passed away suddenly of unknown cause into the arms of Jesus at home on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
Anita had a passion for working with children and in particular teens. As a Youth Services Librarian she was a light to countless kids.
She held positions as a Special Education Teacher at Las Americas ASPIRA Academy in Newark, DE, Speech Language Assistant at Cecil County Public Schools, and Youth Services Librarian at the Cecil County Public Library North East Branch.
Whether it was working in speech therapy, in the school system, or in the library system, working with kids was truly her calling and she excelled at it.
Anita held a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology, a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a minor in Linguistics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
She had also just completed her Masters of Library Sciences and Information at the University of Alabama in 2022.
She was a beloved member of the Newark Church of Christ in Newark, DE where she loved working in the nursery, greeting visitors, and talking to anyone who needed a listening ear. She loved knitting, crocheting, working in the yard, and had a green thumb for all things planted in dirt.
She was so proud of her lemon tree she named “Sunny” who yielded 12 lemons that she used to make a Thanksgiving dessert in 2022.
Anita always took time to enjoy the finer things in life such as the shape of a tree, a cloud formation, sunrises and sunsets, shells and rocks, and the vibrant colors of flowers.
